A Message from Our Fearless Leader

A Message from Our Fearless Leader

This weekend, we have a very special event going on at Epic.

While our newly acclaimed production of “Life Sucks” goes on hiatus, we’re presenting a staged reading of an incredible script by Jen Silverman with the equally irresistible title “Collective Rage: A Play in Five Betties.”

Kira Hawkridge, the Artistic Director of Out Loud Theatre and frequent Epic Collaborator, is at the helm for a theatrical presentation that I’ve been waiting for all year.

Silverman is one of the hottest playwrights working today, and her plays are a bold shot across the bow at conventional theater and theatrical ideas.  “Collective Rage: A Play in Five Betties” is no exception.

It tells the story of five women named Betty as they explore love, sex, art, and identity.  The play walks the tightrope between moving interpersonal examination and theater of the absurd.  The first time I read it, I turned the final page, then immediately went back to the beginning so I could read it all over again.

Each of the five roles are star-making opportunities, and we’ve assembled a star-quality cast to bring this play to life.

Just remember that you only have one weekend to catch this reading.  Three performances only—and those of you who missed “The Healing” know that Epic Events are not something you want to miss.

“Collective Rage: A Play in Five Betties” is part of a series of programming we’re debuting this spring as we begin to conclude our sixth season—titled “Truth to Power”—by offering a diverse and dynamic series of readings and productions that look at what happens when we question the systems we find ourselves operating within and begin to dismantle them.

From “The Healing” to “Life Sucks,” our Buckle Up Festival next month to “Collective Rage: A Play in Five Betties,” we’re proud to give you programming that provokes—and still leaves you feeling hopeful for what’s coming next.

Here at Epic, we’re not afraid of a little Rage.  It’s just fuel for the Resistance.

Keep speaking Truth to Power, and—

#BuckleUp
