We're Looking For An Epic Playwright

Updated: Jul 17

Here at Epic, we are continuing to work on the goals we set in our action plan, which you can find here:

Today we're announcing the creation of our first playwright residency here at Epic, available exclusively to BIPOC playwrights.

Here's what we're looking for from you--

A great play.

That's it.

No resume.

No advanced degree.

No wide berth of experience.

We just want the best play you can write.

It should be full-length and should be able to be produced by a company our size (we have a wide range of venues available to us, but we prefer plays that utilize innovative approaches to characters and storytelling as opposed to spectacle). No musicals, please.

That play will then be produced as part of our season on the Epic mainstage when we reopen. You'll work with the Artistic Director, Associate Artistic Director, and the Epic staff on the production as well as have the opportunity to have future work shortlisted for upcoming seasons. We'll also be providing you resources to workshop anything you're working on during your residency, which will begin at the top of the season and go until the closing date of your production.

Submissions for a production in Winter/Spring 2021 will be accepted until September 1, 2020. Submissions for the 2021-2022 Season will be accepted until March 1, 2021.

To submit a play, or for questions and inquiries, please e-mail Info@EpicTheatreRI.org with the subject line "Play Submission."
